[Construction] Nuclear reactor design
KEPCO E&C is carrying out the architect engineering and nuclear reactor system design of Advanced Power Reactor 1400(APR 1400), which is considered an internationally competitive, next-generation light-water reactor with innovative improvements in safety, operational and economic efficiency. We have strengthened it's safety by standardizing the design and securing design margins, man-machine interface design, and four-quadrant arrangement and contributed to achieving energy security through timely implementation of the national nuclear power plant policy based on reducing the construction period and applying a 60-year design life.
Performance status and characteristics of each unit
Saeul 3 & 4
- Strengthening seismic design requirements (SSE: 0.3g) and applying a design to protect from an aircraft strikes;
- Design to cope with beyond design accident pursuant to accident management regulations;
- Timely implementation of nuclear power plant construction through a preemptive(active or strong) response to construction issues
Shinhanul 1 & 2
- 2022.12.7 Completed the construction of Shinhanul Unit 1, the 27th nuclear power plant in South Korea;
- Finished localization of key facilities such as reactor coolant pump (RCP) and nuclear man-machine interface system (MMIS) for instrumentation and control;
- The first nuclear power plant in the revitalization of the nuclear power industry following the new energy policy;
- Re-advancement as a global energy leader and restoration of the economic viability of the nuclear industry ecosystem
Shinghanul 3 & 4
- Support for the rapid purchase of construction equipment to normalize the nuclear industry ecosystem;
- Prompt support for licensing work to obtain construction permits timely;
- Prevention of construction process delays by preemptively (active or strong) responding to construction issues;
- Preemptive (active or strong) response to the impact of climate change on nuclear power plant safety as a priority;
- Application of the latest seismic design criteria and regulatory requirements
