MOU for Mutual Cooperation to Secure 'the Gyeongju SMR National Industrial Complex and Local Coliving and Development'

On October 13,at Gyeongju City Hall, KEPCO E&C formed an MOU for mutual cooperation with Gyeongsangbuk Province Office, Gyeongju Metropolitan Office, POSTECH, KHNP, KAERI, and KORAD to secure 'Gyeongju SMR National Industrial Complex and local coliving and development'.
 
Gyeongsangbuk Province Office and Gyeongju Metropolitan Office have been working jointly to invite the SMR National Industrial Complex to be located in Gyeongju, in order to construct SMS industry ecosystem
by concentrating SMR manufacturers and companies producing materials, parts, and devices, and integrating with high technology industries, while working in connection with the Munmoo Advanced Research Institute, which is under construction in Gampo-eup, Gyeongju, to establish a foundation for innovative nuclear research and development.

The MOU was prepared to construct SMR industrial ecosystem, foster the nuclear power plant industry, and build a foundation for cooperation between industry, academia, and municipalities. KEPCO and the six entities of the MOU agreed to combine the efferot to secure the SMR National Industrial Complex and contribute to mutual growth with local communities, by △ supporting the development and revitalization of the nuclear power plant industry, △ cooperating to secure the enterprises to build an SMR R&D base and industrial ecosystem, △ fostering technical experts specialized in nuclear power plants, and establishing an industry-academia-industry network, etc.

At the signing ceremony, KEPCO E&C CEO President Kim Sung-Arm remarked, “We envision that this MOU will form the groundworks to revitalize the energy industry ecosystem and local coliving and development, and KEPCO E&C will strive to contribute to the development of the nuclear industry and local communities in the Gyeongsangbuk Province region.”

KEPCO E&C has been putting in effort to advance SMR-related technology and business capabilities by developing independent SMR reactor model (BANDI), and participating in SMART development projects, and innovative SMR development projects.
