KEPCO E&C signed on April 16 a business agreement with Hyundai Engineering and Boguk Enertec for the “Joint implementation of eco-friendly energy projects and development of new business.”

The signing ceremony held at the head office of Hyundai Engineering in Seoul was attended by officials from each company, including Ham Ki-hwang, KEPCO E&C’s Director of Management & Administration Division, Park Chan-woo, Hyundai Engineering’s Head of the Infrastructure Industry Development Division, and Im Duk-jun, CEO of Boguk Enertec.

The purpose of the agreement was for the three signing parties to cooperate closely in technology sharing, equity investment, and EPC execution to develop WTE eco-friendly energy projects and businesses jointly using low-temperature pyrolysis gasifiers.

The low-temperature pyrolysis gasifier is an eco-friendly facility that generates less air pollution such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) than conventional waste incinerators. It is a type of WTE technology that generates energy through waste treatment. Boguk Enertec has successfully developed Korea’s first large-size, low-temperature pyrolysis gasification process, holding a related patent.

Having recognized the feasibility and market potential of pyrolysis gasification technology in the WTE business, KEPCO E&C has been developing the business over the years. It expects the signing of the agreement to be an opportunity to meet the government's Green New Deal policy and lead the eco-friendly WTE business.

Hyundai Engineering has the opportunity to enter the environmental energy business based on low-temperature pyrolysis gasification technology, and Boguk Enertec is expected to develop a potential market in the future based on its technology related to low-temperature pyrolysis gasification.

"We look forward to laying the foundation for joint business development cooperation in the eco-friendly energy business through the close cooperative relationship of the signing parties. It will be the groundwork for a new expansion of KEPCO E&C’s business,” said Ham Ki-hwang, KEPCO E&C’s Director of Management & Administration Division.
