- Enhancement of Nuclear Safety through Information Exchange between Nuclear Equipment Suppliers and Qualifying Bodies -

Approximately 100 technical staff of nuclear equipment suppliers and equipment qualifying bodies gathered for nuclear equipment quality assurance and safety enhancement.

KEPCO E&C held the "Nuclear Equipment Qualification Seminar" on May 10.

This seminar was held in order to strengthen nuclear safety through information exchange between the equipment suppliers and the qualifying bodies.

Approximately 100 technical staff from equipment providers such as Doosan Engine, PK Valve, Maxcom, and Woojin and qualifying agencies such as KTL, Uvcon Engineering, etc., participated.

The 5 topics of the seminar were a) nuclear equipment qualification, b) functional qualification agencies management policy, c) seismic qualification technology, d) environment qualification technology, and e) quality qualification of commercial grade items.

For each topic, in-depth lecture and lively discussions were conducted. In particular, it is expected that, by sharing issues and errors that occur during instrument qualification, there will be significant improvements to future qualification work related to nuclear equipments.

In addition, specific details regarding the application range, applicable equipment, implementation periods, etc., of the "Nuclear Safety Act" – which is being implemented to enhance the quality of nuclear safety – were addressed in-depth. This proved to be of great assistance to nuclear operators in accurately understanding and implementing the laws.

Naturally, information regarding the changes in equipment qualification requirements and technology implementation standards of the new nuclear power facility were provided.

In his welcome speech, Jik-lae Jo, Executive Senior Vice President, noted that much effort has been made to earn back the trust of the people in each sector of the nuclear power industry. “The trust of the people must be recovered by sharing information on nuclear equipment qualification, and continued efforts must be made to strengthen competitiveness by ensuring quality and revitalizing the nuclear industry,” he stressed.

KEPCO E&C will continue to support the equipment qualifying technologies of nuclear equipment suppliers and, by doing so, do everything in its capacity to ensure quality in major equipment related to nuclear safety.
