A ceremony commemorating the synchronization of Dangjin unit 9 was held at the site on August 4 in the township of Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin-si, South Chungcheong Province.
Attending the event were more than 100 people including KEPCO President & CEO Hwan-ik Cho, KEPCO E&C Executive Senior Vice President Jae-won Kim and President & CEO Joo-ok Chang of Korea East-West Power Co., and officials in charge of the project.
Synchronization refers to the generation of power by operating a power generator after harmonizing voltage and electric frequency with the power transmission system. The synchronization of Dangjin Unit 9 was successfully conducted this time after the initial firing in April and test operation of all individual equipment and facilities. After synchronization, Dangjin Unit 9 will undergo general test operation, including combustion test, load test, and reliability test, before starting commercial operation in earnest in December.
Dangjin units 9 and 10, Korea’s first 1,000 MW-class coal-fired thermal power plants, are eco-friendly power plants equipped with state-of-the-art desulfurization and de-denitrification systems and indoor coal storage as well as advanced, high-efficiency power plant facilities adopting the latest design technology.
Following the groundbreaking on June 1, 2011, Dangjin unit 9 began the installation of the pressure assembly on February 25, 2013 and successfully completed synchronization this time. After going through the general pilot operation phase, Dangjin unit 9 will be inaugurated in December 2015, whereas unit 10 will be completed in June 2016.
