Contract Signed for the Preparation of Infrastructure for the Plant Monitoring System (PMS) Exportation

On September 29th 2009, KOPEC signed an agreement with the Electric Power Infrastructure Center (EPIC) for “The Preparation of Infrastructure for the Plant Monitoring System (PMS) Exportation”. As the agency entrusted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy with the ‘project of preparing the basis for the electric industry’, the EPIC received open proposals for the projects to be newly supported for the preparation of the infrastructure for exportation in August. It has selected the final 3 projects out of 12 applications.

The project signed by KOPEC will be jointly carried out by Woori Technology Co., Ltd. and BNF Technology Co., Ltd., with KOPEC as the leading company. It aims to set out the overseas business for the plant monitoring system (PMS) in order to export the PMS for nuclear power plants.

KOPEC will implement the major works for export such as conducting overseas market survey, investigating the requirements for the license and exportation of the nuclear equipments, conducting preliminary study on the certification for the qualification of hardware and software, and preparing the standard bid documentation. KOPEC had developed the PMS early in 1998 and the first package was installed at Kori unit 1 nuclear power plant. The recently installed PMSs for Ulchin unit 1 and 2 are demonstrating the successful operation with customer’s great satisfaction.

This agreement is expected to establish a bridgehead for the export of PMS through the collaboration among KOPEC, Woori Technology and BNF, thereby consolidating the export infrastructure and promoting the cooperation of all three companies. KOPEC will secure the competitiveness of the EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) business through continuous partnership with small and medium-sized enterprises.
