The National Quality Prize is Korea’s only quality award system hosted by the government under a statute that introduced the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award system from the USA, though slight modifications were made to accommodate local conditions. KOPEC challenged the quality management award to submit to an independent verification its quality management system, which was set up by a task force team organized at the beginning of this year to deploy an innovative enterprise-wide quality management system by diagnosing the company’s existing quality management system and deriving quality management tasks based on the MBNQA assessment criteria, a world-class quality management model.
The National Quality Prize system covers six different management areas: Leadership, Strategic Planning; Focus on Customer and Market; Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management; Focus on Human Resources; Process Management; and Management Performance. From August 21~23, six members of the National Quality Prize screening committee conducted an on-site inspection of the details of a quality management statement prepared by KOPEC’s task force team. KOPEC won the Public Sector Quality Management Prize after a fierce competition with other government-invested public enterprises.
KOPEC’s position will be further upgraded as the National Quality Management Prize publicly and objectively recognizes the diverse quality management efforts steadily implemented by the organization so far.
