On May 23, KEPCO E&C has entered into an MOU for the Exchange of SMR Technology and Application of SMRs on Ships with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
The MOU signing ceremony held at HHI’s head office in Ulsan was attended by key stakeholders, including HD HHI CEO Han Young-seuk, Technology Division Director Cheun Seung-ho, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) Director Park Sang-min, KEPCO E&C President & CEO Kim Sung-Arm, NSSS Division Director Kim Myung-ro, Sustainable Growth Dept. Moon Young-tae.
A HHI official said, “Amid the higher expectations for floating offshore nuclear power plants driven by small modular reactors (SMRs), we are committed to leading the market and working with KEPCO E&C, the sole company in the world capable of designing nuclear reactors and making an integrated proprietary design.”
Under the MOU, the two companies will hold technology exchange meetings and discuss ways to develop and apply SMRs and discover and promote areas of cooperation to deploy SMRs on generator ships and SMR-powered ships.
