The groundbreaking ceremony of the Eumseong Natural Gas Power Plant—a project participated in by KEPCO E&C as a provider of comprehensive design technology services—was held on November 9 at the plant’s construction site in Pyeonggok-ri, Eumseong-gun in Northern Chungcheong Province.

The event was attended by approximately 200 persons including KEPCO E&C’s Energy Division Head Kim Dong-gyu, president of Korea East-West Power, Vice Minister from the ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Deputy Governor of Northern Chungcheong Province, and members of the National Assembly. It proceeded in order of progress report, ceremonial speech, and tape cutting ceremony.

Eumseong Natural Gas Power Plant is to be built by converting the Dangjin Eco Power, a coal-fired power plant, into a natural gas power plant in line with the government’s policy for fuel transition in the electricity industry. With the construction of unit 1 and unit 2 scheduled for completion in June 2025 and December 2026, respectively, the new 1,122MW-power plant is expected to be the largest power plant in the province that would serve as a stable power supplier for industrial complexes in the region.

Construction started in October after the acquisition of a construction permit, and it is expected to pick up steam following the ceremony.

As a power plant using clean liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel, the Eumseong Natural Gas Power Plant is to be built using cutting-edge environmental technologies. In addition, the plant will feature an energy theme park that includes an ecological park as well as sports / cultural facilities to contribute to the local community.

KEPCO E&C will make its best effort to contribute to the successful construction of the Eumseong Natural Gas Power Plant.
