KEPCO E&C President Kim Sung-arm gave a lecture titled “A suggestion for a sustainable ecosystem in the nuclear power industry” for the 37th Summer Lecture for Nuclear Power Managers held at Seoul National University on July 7.

Kim began his lecture by introducing the current status of KEPCO E&C’s management system enhancement, such as strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth that he has focused on since his appointment as KEPCO E&C President in May last year. He highlighted the importance of establishing new vision and strategies for the nuclear industry as carbon neutrality and energy security reinforcement had become key issues.

He attributed the successful advancement of South Korea's nuclear industry to the world's highest level to the clear vision of the leader, national integration, and commitment of nuclear power professionals. He emphasized the need for the nuclear power industry to present new goal and vision as the EU Parliament resolved to include nuclear power as green energy on July 6 and Korea is trying to revitalize nuclear power generation.

Kim argued that building a sustainable ecosystem of the nuclear power industry is feasible only with public trust and support, and that the attention and effort of nuclear power professionals are important in creating a safer, more transparent environment for the nuclear power industry. He stressed that the nuclear power industry must focus on creating the synergy of Team Korea by cooperating and communicating for the government's measures to rebuild the ecosystem of the nuclear power industry to be effective.

He added that the nuclear power industry has been nurturing professionals and developing technologies for nuclear power even when the national budget is not sufficient. According to him, the industry must show its strong power to bounce back by seeking new survival despite the difficulties instead of blaming external environment factors such as the nuclear power plant phase-out.

He concluded his lecture by declaring that KEPCO E&C, as the technology core in the nuclear power industry, would do its best to give future generations opportunities to lead the nuclear power industry.

The Summer Lecture for Nuclear Power Managers is a training program for managers in the nuclear industry hosted by Seoul National University and Korea Atomic Energy Industrial Forum each year.
