KEPCO E&C and Korea Expressway Corporation signed on June 8 a business agreement on technology collaboration in smart construction and digital engineering.

The signing ceremony held at the Gimcheon headquarters of Korea Expressway Corporation was attended by KEPCO E&C CEO Kim Sung-arm and Korea Expressway Corporation CEO Kim Jin-sook along with other officials of the two companies.

The motive for entering into this agreement is to leverage their collaboration in smart construction technologies and digital engineering technologies toward becoming leaders in the digital transition of the construction industry through the application of convergent/integrated innovation technologies and the promotion of digital technology commercialization and utilization.

The two organizations promised to join forces in researching how to manage processes and projects using information-based construction models, setting up a cloud-based digital platform, and using advanced drone/IoT technologies for managing facilities.
KEPCO E&C is looking at entering the global energy market on the strength of its engineering prowess in energy plants. It is also actively pursuing K-New Deal projects in areas like renewables and digital conversions.

Especially in the digital engineering area, KEPCO E&C is building a data-based lifecycle management platform for gathering, storing, analyzing, and using the data generated during a project lifecycle.

Korea Expressway Corporation has been overseeing the smart construction technology development efforts of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport with the aim of creating innovative technologies for the digitalization/automation of the construction industry and building a smart ecosystem.

The two organizations are leading the innovation of digital/conversion technologies.

"Through the integration of digital engineering technology and smart construction technology, we hope to pave the way for the digital conversion of domestic and overseas construction industries and accelerate the utilization of digital technologies. With this agreement, KEPCO E&C shall be the leader in the innovation and digitalization of the engineering industry, aggressively implementing the government's K-New Deal and carbon neutral policies at the same time,” CEO Kim Sung-arm said at the signing ceremony.
