On October 28, KEPCO E&C signed an MOU with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) to cooperate for the government project, "Development of predictive maintenance technology for floating offshore wind power systems based on digital twin technology."

The government project is a technology development program to be executed by seven organizations, including Ulsan Technopark, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Korea Research Institute of Ship & Ocean Engineering, for 15 months beginning in October 2020. The total project cost is expected to be about KRW 6.4 billion (KEPCO E&C’s portion of KRW 2.4 billion).

The ultimate goal of this technology development program is to ① develop the status monitoring and simulation technology, ② develop predictive maintenance technology, ③ develop the optimal operation technology for remote monitoring, and ④ develop the risk prediction technology to cope with typhoons, high tide, and storm for floating wind power generators.

The government plans to increase the offshore wind power generation to 12GW by 2030 as part of the Renewable Energy 3020 Plan. The need for floating wind power generation has recently been raised considering the limitation of locations for fixed offshore wind power generation.

KEPCO E&C plans to expand its business domain by advancing the floating offshore wind power generation in step with the government policy and securing the know-how to develop the integrated system for power generation equipment O&M through this technology development program.
