Content

On September 24, KEPCO E&C signed an MOU with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for long-term cooperation on the development of offshore nuclear power technologies.

Attendees at the signing ceremony, held as a video conference due to the COVID-19 epidemic, included Yeom Hag-gi, director of the KEPCO E&C Power Technology Institute, Choi Dong-gyu, director of the DSME R&D Institute, and executives from both companies.

The objective of the MOU includes the development of offshore nuclear power technologies, business development, and joint project execution based on KEPCO E&C’s world-level nuclear power plant design and construction technology and DSME’s extensive experience and know-how in shipbuilding.

KEPCO E&C has been developing BANDI-60, a small modular reactor (SMR), since 2016 and expects the signing of this MOU to provide the momentum for the development of offshore floating nuclear power plants with BANDI-60.

“There should be significant synergy from DSME’s excellent marine floating system design and manufacturing technology and KEPCO E&C’s advanced nuclear power technology. I hope that we can maintain our strategic cooperative relationship with the signing of this MOU,” said Yeom Hag-gi, director of the KEPCO E&C Power Technology Institute.

“Cooperation on the development of offshore nuclear power with KEPCO E&C, which has world-class nuclear power plant design technology and construction know-how, will enable us to provide advanced products with higher stability and reliability to our customers,” said Choi Dong-gyu, director of the DSME R&D Institute.
