KEPCO E&C signed the agreement for cooperation in developing pioneering hydrogen technologies (Power to Gas (P2G)) with Energy & Marine Solution, a leading Korean company in hydrogen refining through water electrolysis technology on June 30.

Officials of the two companies, including Byeon Hwa-woon, Director of Energy Division of KEPCO E&C, and Kang Sam-soo, CEO of Energy & Marine Solution, attended the signing ceremony.

The two companies agreed to cooperate in technology exchange, business development and execution, and education/training support to secure and commercialize the technology to mitigate fluctuation of the power grid through the production of hydrogen from renewable energy by combining the renewable/power technology and water electrolysis technology.

Energy & Marine Solution has advanced P2G technology accumulated through its experience of performance improvement and a capacity increase of water electrolysis facilities for more than 20 years. It has been installing hydrogen charging stations with the largest capacity (600 N㎥/h) water electrolysis system in Korea.

P2G is an energy conversion technology that uses electrolysis of water to convert electrical energy into gas (hydrogen), which is easy to transport and store. Its application is likely to expand in line with the government policy to expand renewable energy and promote hydrogen energy.

“We expect the signing of this agreement to be an opportunity for KEPCO E&C to play our role for promoting hydrogen economy in step with the government’s energy conversion policy and advance further through diversification of new & renewable business,” said Director Byeon.
