The Korea Power Engineering Company was visited by high-ranking officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency and the governments and nuclear power plants of nine Eastern European countries on June 2nd.

The visit, scheduled as part of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Program, was organized with the aim of increasing the safety and performance of Eastern European nuclear power plants based on KOPEC’s internationally recognized nuclear power plant technology and of consolidating technical cooperation between the affiliates. The IAEA also began the Nuclear Power Plant Operation Improvement Workshop for nuclear power plant officials from a number of Eastern European countries, including Armenia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

The visitors were given a tour of KOPEC’s operational environment, including the 3-dimensional design testing room. The workshop held to introduce KOPEC’s nuclear power plant technology included presentations on the development of new nuclear power plants in South Korea (Lee, Jae-gyu), engineering services for operational nuclear power plants (Lee, Jong-seok), risk evaluation and management (Lee, Gwang-nam), and case studies on nuclear power plants, namely Kori Unit 1 and Wolseong Unit 1 (Jin, Tae-eun).
After the day’s visit, the visitors affirmed their belief that nuclear power plants constitute the most progressive energy source and have the potential to save mankind and the earth from environmental pollution, and stated that they had been deeply impressed by KOPEC’s nuclear power plant technology and that they expected KOPEC to continue contributing to the development of international nuclear power technology.
