KOPEC won the “APR+ Standard Design Development Project” in the BOP Design and NSSS Design at the same time.

KOPEC is participating in the project based on an agreement between Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy according to the Nuclear Technology Development Plan (Nu-Tech 2012: Objectives changed from Nu-Tech 2015), which is being implemented by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in order to develop the new nuclear power plant having high competitiveness in the foreign market.

The contract stipulates that the Nuclear Power Division and Reactor Engineering & Development Team are to complete the project within one year from May 2009 to March 2010. The APR+ Standard Design Development Project will be extended to 2012 when the Nu-Tech 2012 Agreement between the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy is modified in the future.

The project involves the development of a project management system and engineering management system, economy and constructability evaluation, conceptual and basic design in the area of BOP design. The NSSS design includes technical support of standard design planning, development of system design criteria, management of interface design and design data control, design parameter analysis, development of engineering data, system design requirements and system deions.

APR+ Standard Design Development Project will be performed to fully meet the government policies aimed at securing international competitiveness by complete localization of key design technologies and ensuring sustainable growth of the nuclear industry. It will greatly contribute to improving the design technology of new advanced reactors and the international competitiveness at foreign nuclear market at the advent of the global renaissance in nuclear energy. When the nuclear power plant is exported, it is expected to achieve synergies and high value-added effects on the domestic industry.
