Registration of the KHNP Yonggwang Solar Park and Kori Wind Power Projects as the CDM

KOPEC has successfully registered the Yonggwang Solar Park and the Kori Wind Power CDM Project with the UNFCCC on April 22.

The 3MW photovoltaic power plant (Yonggwang Solar Park) and the 750kW wind power plant (Kori Wind Power Plant) which was installed at Yonggwang and Kori Nuclear Power Plant respectively will reduce 2,680 ton-CO2 of GHG(greenhouse gas) emissions by generating 4,248 MWh of electricity unless it would have been generated by fossil fuel power plants. KHNP(Korea Hydro & Nuclear Powewr), the project owner, will receive CERs for the GHG reduction achieved by this CDM project and 10% of CERs will be paid to KOPEC as an incentive.

It is noteworthy that the project was registered no more than 16 months after the kick-off in January 2008, all the more so given that the CDM-EB has been strengthening the criteria for CDM registration. This registration, in addition to the Sudokwon Landfill Gas CDM Project, will position KOPEC as an excellent CDM consultant and contribute to the national policy on climate change and low-carbon-based growth.

The next project, Cheongpyeong Hydro Power Plant Unit 4 CDM Project, is expected to be registered as the CDM by the end of this year.
As a publicly held company, KOPEC will continue to upgrade its position as a global eco-friendly business by developing new technology services for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions on the basis of our accumulated experience in power plant design and engineering.
