At 10:00 am on April 15, a workshop was held at the Company’s headquarters building concerning the development of modularization technology for “The APR+ nuclear power equipment and structure Project,” in which the Company is participating as a design specialist firm.

The Government-led research project is being promoted in two phases from 2008 through 2012 as part of the common APR+ core technology development scheme. The project is intended to secure the design technology required for application of the modularization technique, establish the modularization methodology based on the concept and basic design of the targeted module, and the application of them to newly built nuclear power plants and APR+, with the aim to get ahead of competitors in the relevant field.

The workshop was held to help the management of the seven institutions participating in the project (i.e. KOPEC, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea Electric Power Research (KEPRI), Samsung Corporation, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Midas IT, and Korean Society of Steel Construction) have an in-depth understanding of the project and form more solid cooperative relations with each other. The two-hour session attended by 50-plus people was carried out in the order of introduction to the current status of the country’s hydro and nuclear power generation, past projects jointly carried out by KOPEC and Midas IT, along with future plans, and the Q&A session concerning matters of common interest.

The attendees showed high interest in the project and the workshop provided a good opportunity for those participating in the project to feel the need to establish a solid teamwork for the shared objective of development of the modularization technology.
