On March 28, the ceremony for the completion of the 1st phase of the Sungsan Wind Farm Project was held at the worksite in Susan-ri, Sungsan-eup, Jeju-do As the designer of the power generation plant and supporter of project management, KOPEC has been heavily involved in the project

Commencing with the approval of the master plan and presentation of the project to local residents in 2004, the 1st phase of the project has taken five years to complete, including two years of construction work. The farm, owned by Korea Southern Power, consists of six 2.0MW (total capacity of 12MW), horizontal-axis-type wind power generators, requiring a total investment of $22.4M. KOPEC was in charge of the overall design and supervision.

In response to the ongoing changes in the global energy supply, we have been conducting feasibility studies, design, and supervision for most of the wind farm projects executed in Korea. Wind power has been recognized as having the most economical unit power cost of all new and renewable energy resources. The Sungsan Wind Farm will supply clean energy to Jeju Island - a famous resort island where plans are in the pipeline for the construction of Jeju Free International City -, thereby contributing to environmental preservation and complying with the Kyoto Protocol for global climate change on the island.
