KEPCO E&C held on April 30 a special session titled “The Role of Nuclear Power for Carbon Neutrality” jointly with the Korean Energy Society at the Spring Conference.

The session was attended by more than 30 people, including Chairman Park Jin-ho of the Korean Energy Society.
In his presentation, Professor Jeong Yong-hoon of KAIST emphasized that "nuclear power must play its role to achieve the national policy of carbon neutrality successfully.”

In the panel discussion, experts expressed a wide range of opinions as to the role of nuclear power for carbon neutrality: “Declaration of Carbon Neutrality with No Strategy” by Noh Dong-seok, Research Fellow at the Seoul National University Nuclear Policy Center; “The role of nuclear power from an innovator to an actor of an innovative ecosystem” by Oh Si-deok, CEO of Blue Economy (besico); “Prerequisites for the role of nuclear power for carbon neutrality” by Professor Cho Seong-kyung, Myongji University; “Efforts by the nuclear power sector to realize a zero-carbon society” by Nam Young-mi, President of Women in Nuclear Korea; and “Innovative SMR and carbon neutrality” by Kim Han-gon, Director of the KHNP Central Research Institute.

"It is desirable to consider nuclear power in the path to decarbonization. Moreover, it is necessary to focus on technology development, human resources development, and communication and cooperation to utilize it not only in power generation but also for thermal energy," said Yeom Hag-gi, Director of KEPCO E&C’s Power Technology Institute.
