KEPCO E&C on June 2 signed the service agreement for APR1000 standard design development (NSSS design and basic design) with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to obtain the European Utility Requirements (EUR) Rev. E certification.

Based on the outcome of the currently ongoing mid-sized nuclear power plant technology project, the company plans to execute the service project for 48 months beginning in June 2020 to complete the standard design of the APR1000 reactor, acquire the EUR Rev. E certification, and try to win nuclear plant orders in European countries, including the Czech Republic.

The APR1000 standard design based on the existing APR1400 power plant developed with Korean technology applies the same power capacity and design life of 60 years as the OPR1000 nuclear plant. Moreover, it will reflect the IAEA safety requirements that have been strengthened since the Fukushima nuclear accident and the design improvements applied to APR+ and EU-APR nuclear plant design.

KEPCO E&C expects that the APR1000 standard design (NSSS design and basic design) and the EUR Rev. E certification will help the company to enter the mid-sized nuclear plant projects in Europe in the future.
