A ceremony commemorating KOPEC’s completion of the construction of a factory for the mass production of a denitrification catalyst was held on June 22, 2009 (Mon.) in the Science & Industry Complex in Gangneung-si. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including KOPEC President An Seung-kyoo, Roe Se-yoon, the president of Daeyoung C&E, the mayor of Gangneung-si, the chairman of Gangneung City Council, the president of KETEP, and executives and employees of the related companies.

The factory was established to supply our company’s catalyst, which was certified as a world-first-class product (product name: KoNOX®) by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and manufactured at Daeyoung C&E by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. KOPEC invested in the core facilities of the factory. As a result, KOPEC has laid the groundwork for the expansion of its business not only in Korea but in international markets as well.

The factory is capable of producing 1,000 tons of denitrification catalyst powder and 5000m³ of catalyst per year on its 15,000m² site to set up consistent production lines from the materials of denitrification catalyst to the products. It is expected that the denitrification catalysts produced in the factory will have an import substitute effect worth around KRW 200 billion.

The completion of the denitrification catalyst factory is a representative case of the commercialization of technology secured through the project – sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy - to develop source technology in the electricity industry. As such, it is highly significant that the results were achieved by Korean technology and facilities. It is also a good example of a Win-Win strategy that pursues mutual benefits via technological cooperation between large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises which respond to the government’s policy on the harmonized and balanced development of local areas.

KOPEC is receiving many offers of technological alliances and joint ventures from companies in China and other nations. In the future, KOPEC will lay solid foundations for green growth under its commitment to the exploration not only in the denitrification plant but in the catalysts.
