‘Daegu-Gyeongbuk Cyber Security Council’ Held with the National Intelligence Service

On February 23, KEPCO E&C held the 'Daegu-Gyeongbuk Cyber Security Council' with the National Intelligence Service in the video conference room on the 3rd floor of the headquarters in Gimcheon.

After the first meeting in 2023 was held at the headquarters of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, on the 2nd, the second meeting held this year was attended by about 30 individual heads of organizations concerned.

Established with the aim of enhancing the cyber security capabilities of municipal authorities and public institutions located in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, the ‘Daegu-Gyeongbuk Cyber Security Council’ promotes business cooperation and exchanges that are actively taking place between cyber security personnel in each institution.

At the council, each agency pledged to conduct practical training and thorough onsite inspections. in preparation of the '2023 Forecast of Five Major Cyber Security Threat' announced by the National Intelligence Service (① intensifying theft of cyber information for the purpose of collecting information on cutting-edge technology and current security issues, ② increasing hacking for the purpose of social chaos in the confrontation between South Korea and the North, ③ frequent cyber financial crimes, such as the spread of ransomware damage to public and corporate targets, ④ continued supply chain hacking to exploit private services such as service providers and clouds, and ⑤ emergence of various hacking methods for the purpose of evading cyber deterrence policies).
In addition, they listened to the accomplishment of the ‘Daegu-Gyeongbuk Cyber Security Research Association’ launched last year by the municipality and six local universities, such as diagnoses of homepage vulnerabilities, and this year’s research plan, along with discussions being held on the prevention of cyber security accidents and countermeasures in case of damage.

Last year, KEPCO E&C signed a business agreement with the National Intelligence Service and nuclear power-related organizations in North Gyeongsang Province to strengthen cyber security, and is constantly working to improve our institutional cybersecurity capabilities.
