Meteorological Tower Installed at Offshore Wind Farm in Jeju Island

KEPCO E&C held a ceremony to mark the installation of the meteorological tower needed for construction of the Jeju Offshore Wind Farm near the offshore area of Hallim county, Jeju-si in Jeju on June 21st, 2012. Some 30 representatives such as President & CEO Seung-kyoo An, Vice Governor of the Jeju Special Self-governing Province Kim Bu-il and Daelim President Kim Dong Soo as well as local residents joined the ceremony.   

In December 2010, KEPCO E&C reached an agreement with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to build the local offshore wind farm. In February 2011, the site in Suwon-ri, Hallim-eup (administrative unit in Korea equivalent to county in other countries) was finally selected as a result of open competition and the preliminary study is now under way.  

Installed by Daelim, a Korea’s leading constructor, the meteorological tower is expected to collect wind data, which is one of the key tasks for an offshore wind power generation project. 

In the year to come, KEPCO E&C and Daelim are going to phase in the 150MW wind farm project that includes collection and analysis of the weather data via the meteorological tower for feasiblity study, selection and design of the main equipment, and financing.   

President & CEO Seung-kyoo An in the completion ceremny said that the completion of the meteorological tower had hoisted a sail for the Jeju offshore wind farm project. CEO An added that we at KEPCO E&C would spare no effort in conducting the project as it is a milestone for future energy development and overseas offshore wind farm projects.
