KEPCO E&C’s Power Engineering School, a summer camp designed to foster future engineers in electronic technology, was held this July 3 to 7.

The PES, an educational program aimed at university students majoring in natural sciences or engineering, has been held every summer and winter vacation since 2011, with more than 670 students completing the course so far.

This year, 60 sophomores and juniors from universities all over the country have enrolled on the course at the recommendation of their schools.

The curriculum included such courses as basic engineering education on electronics, measuring, machinery, plumbing, and public engineering, as well as CEO lectures, lectures on humanities, and visited to power plants and radioactive waste disposal facilities.

The participants learned how the theory they have learned was applied on site by visiting the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant and the Gyeongju radioactive waste disposal facility on July 6 and 7 respectively.

On July 4, president Park Koo-woun delivered a lecture titled Thinking about Our Future through the Engineering Industry and discussed the 4th Industrial Revolution, future engineering, and the role of KEPCO E&C.

President Park Koo-woun also advised that “Effort is needed to find the balance between the liberal arts and specialized knowledge,” and went on to say, “I hope this PES summer camp will serve as a stepping stone for you all to become engineers in electronics.”

During the closing ceremony held on July 7, KEPCO E&C selected three excellent students according to the grades they received during the camp, and awarded each of them a scholarship of 2 million won.

KEPCO E&C is planning to further develop and continue the PES program in order to develop future engineers in the electronics field.
