The Power Engineering School (PES) Summer Camp, a training program designed to foster future engineers in the area of power technology,  was  held on two separate occasions (July 4 - 6, 2016 and July 18 - 20, 2016).

KEPCO E&C holds the PES Camp during the summer and winter vacations each year in order to foster talented engineering students of science and engineering at major universities in South Korea.

For this year’s PES Summer Camp, 69 second- and third-year students majoring in science and engineering at 35 major universities including Seoul National University, Hanyang University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) participated in the program at the recommendation of their respective universities.

In addition, in order to provide traffic convenience for students participating in the program from around the country, the first session was held from July 4 - 6 for the Seoul Metropolitan area, followed by another session from July 18 - 20 for the non-Seoul Metropolitan area.

The PES Summer Camp  took place at the KEPCO E&C, Kori Nuclear Power Site, and KEPCO’s International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), etc. for two nights (and three days) in the form of a trainng camp.

The training was comprised a wide variety of programs including a special lecture on the humanities, the basics of nuclear energy, team assignments, and a field trip.

For students who are having a tough time due to their academic performance or difficulty in choosing a career, Lee Jeong-uk, a national team member of paper plane flight, delivered a special lecture on the humanities with the focus on his own story of challenge for a better flight record.

In addition, the participants had an opportunity to learn about the core contents necessary for nuclear power plant engineering through a lecture on the basics of nuclear energy. The lecture consisted of a basic explanation of nuclear energy, the status of the nuclear power industry both at home and abroad, the outlook for the overseas nuclear power industry, and the national strategy for nuclear plant exports among other subjects.

Notably, the participants went on a field trip to the Kori Nuclear Power Plant to confirm how the theories they have learned during the training were actually applied at the site of a nuclear power plant.

KEPCO E&C plans to award a scholarship to students with an excellent record upon completion of the PES Summer Camp, and will continue holding the event in the future to nurture future engineering students’ interest in power technology.

The PES Summer Camp was held for the first time in July 2011, since when about 550 students have completed the training course. Thanks to the favorable responses of previous participants in the event, the number of students wishing to participate in the program has increased sharply, reflecting its popularity.
