KEPCO E&C signed an MOU with Gemeng International Energy Co., Ltd.(hereinafter "Gemeng") for comprehensive cooperation in the power generation and energy areas at Gemeng's main meeting room located in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on March 7, 2012.

The MOU stipulates cooperation in the company’s work in power plant environmental equipment design, performance diagnosis and improvement, and new power plant design optimization, as well as in other environmental business areas such as power plant performance improvement, and joint R&D on energy saving and emission reduction.

Gemeng  is a joint venture of KEPCO, which owns a 34% share, Shanxi Provincial Government, Deutsche Bank and J-Power, following the Shanxi Provincial Government’s policy to privatize power generation assets. Gemeng has invested in twelve power generation companies (10,272MW) and three mining companies (reserve of 390 million ton) and is expanding its business domain to wastewater and waste treatment, coal layer gas supply, and environmental business.

“Gemeng International has a special relationship with us as KEPCO is one of its key investors. Indeed, we have had close relations since its foundation. The grounds for even closer relations were laid when the technical representative of the company visited KEPCO E&C last year,” LEE, BAE SOO, Director of Strategy and Marketing, said at the MOU signing ceremony. “After signing this MOU, KEPCO E&C will be in a position to better cooperate in environmental system improvement or power plant performance improvement, beginning with participation in the denitrification project initiated by Shanxi Huaguang Electric Power Co., Ltd.”

KEPCO E&C expects that the MOU will be an opportunity to enter the Chinese market, utilizing its know-how and experience in field of power generation and energy, including environmental technologies like denitrification and desulfurization, as well as new power plant design and performance improvement.
