On February 17, KEPCO E&C signed a work agreement with KEPCO KDN to implement a power plant underground utility management system applying AR.

The signing event was participated by officials of the two companies, including Kim Dong-gyu, KEPCO E&C’s Head of Energy Division, and Jeong Jae-hoon, KEPCO KDN’s Head of Power Convergence Business Division.

The purpose of the agreement is to jointly build a mobile system to integrate and manage underground utilities at power plants through the collaboration between KEPCO E&C that has the know-how to develop an underground utility management system implementation using 3D power plant model and KEPCO KDN that has the small multi-GNSS and AR technologies.

Both companies plan to advance and upgrade existing systems by jointly implementing a power plant underground utility management system applying location-based AR by combining AR and 3D modeling, which are the crucial technologies for the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Moreover, they agreed to cooperate actively to present a new business model to prevent safety accidents involving excavation and sinkhole during underground utility maintenance, use the effective facility management system, and actively cooperate for technology exchange, joint patent, business development, and support to commercialize it.

“We expect the combination of core technologies of both companies create the future growth engine and the foundation for business diversification based on the 4th Industrial Revolution by actively utilizing AR technology for implementing underground utility management system not only for power plants but also general facilities,” said Kim Dong-gyu, KEPCO E&C’s Head of Energy Division, who had led the signing of the agreement.
