KEPCO E&C efforts in power plant design quality and safety are honored with the nation’s most prestigious award for quality  -

On November 23, the 42nd National Quality Management Contest was held at COEX and KEPCO E&C received the Grand Prize, the highest award given at the competition.

Every year the National Quality Management Contest selects companies and individuals who have achieved excellent business performance through quality management and awards them. The contest is sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and hosted by the Korean Standards Association.

KEPCO E&C has been a leader in quality management. The company received the N-certificate* from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1984 and it was the first engineering company in Korea to adopt a quality assurance system.

* International public certification issued to a company after evaluating its capabilities in adopting the technical standards of pressure equipment used in nuclear power plants

At the same time, KEPCO E&C, is leading the quality management of the industry through the adoption of a quality management system that meets the requirements of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (1996), ISO 14001 Environment Management System (2006), OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System (2010), and ISO 27001 Information Protection Management System (2014).

Our excellent quality in design has given us the confidence to pursue business opportunities in overseas markets. We have been duly rewarded for our efforts, having been ranked #1 in the “International Nuclear Power Plant Design” category for 4 consecutive years (2012~2015) by ENR (Engineering News-Record), the American construction engineering magazine. In 2015, KEPCO E&C was also ranked #3 in the “International Contractor in Cogeneration Power Plant” category. KEPCO E&C is rising to become a truly global engineering company.

Since 2010, KEPCO E&C  has set a goal of diversifying its business and has become an EPC company that can provide a total solution for engineering, procurement, and construction. KEPCO E&C  has also adopted an HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) management system which enabled it to attain a zero accident record across the entire construction process (total 12,460,000 hours) for its power plant capacity augmentation projects in Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire. As a result of these milestones, KEPCO E&C is now recognized for its world class competencies in quality safety management.

According to Koo-Woun Park, President of KEPCO E&C, “This award was possible because all the employees worked on improving quality competitiveness and everyone thought foremost about safety and quality.” He added, “We hope that KEPCO E&C’s capabilities in quality management could be leveraged in raising the quality competitiveness of the industry in Korea.”

KEPCO E&C intends to further refine its design quality by continuously making improvements to its power plant design process. At the same time, it plans to focus all its resources towards providing the best technical service possible from the customers’ point of view.

Also, KEPCO E&C has plans to leverage its experiences in designing power plants and technologies accumulated over 40 years towards diversifying into environmental and renewable energy businesses, electricity transmission and distribution businesses, PM/CM businesses, and energy consulting business with interests covering the whole energy industry.
