The KEPCO E&C building won the grand prize in the “2016 Korea Green Construction Competition” held by the Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy on November 17.

Since 2012, the “Korea Green Construction Building” has discovered and awarded outstanding green constructions annually in a bid to spread and expand the importance of eco-friendly, green constructions.

KEPCO E&C’s company building was recognized as an outstanding eco-friendly construction for its active use of renewable and eco-friendly energy, such as use of photovoltaic facilities, geothermal heating and cooling system, water and wastewater reclamation/reusing system facilities, and other diverse eco-friendly technologies.

The company’s building, which was constructed in May 2015 in Gyeongbuk Gimcheon Innovative City following the regional movement of the public institution, has 28 floors aboveground and 2 floors underground, with total floor area of 145,864 m². It is an eco-friendly, energy-saving construction that was rated 1st class in green construction, 1st + class in construction energy efficiency, and 1st class as an intelligent building.

The building is recognized for its value as a low-carbon, green building, particularly the fact that 20% of the total energy supply comes from sunlight, solar heat energy, geothermal, and other renewable energy.

Aside from that, the building has maximized energy efficiency by applying vacuum triple-glazed glass, implementing a roof garden, using high-efficiency energy equipment and materials, installing high-efficiency LED light lamps, among others.

The company will make this award serve as an impetus to focus further on reducing greenhouse gases and energy consumption in order to pioneer the idea of green management.

Furthermore, the company is actively operating its in-house library, cafeteria, in-house restaurant, main auditorium, and other company amenities together with regional citizens as an open public space.

Through these actions, it is earning raves among the regional citizens as a central cultural space in Gimcheon Innovative City, which lacks cultural facilities and accommodations.
