Ground Breaking Ceremony for Dongducheon LNG CCPP

On June 26, a ground breaking ceremony for the Dongdocheon LNG combined cycle power plant project, where KEPCO E&C is responsible for designing, was held in Dongducheon City. Deuk Kyu Lee, Senior Executive Vice President of KEPCO E&C and around 200 guests attended including CEO of Dongucheon Dream Power, CEO of Korea Westernpower, Mayor of Dongducheon City, and national and local assemblymen. 

In the congulatutory remarks, speakers mentioned power shortages that Korea is facing with and expressed high hopes that the plant can contribute to easing the shortages as well as creating jobs for local residents. 

The Dongdocheon LNG combined cycle power plant is the largest in its capacity of 2 units of 858MW. The site was prepared by signing an MOU between Korea Westernpower and Dongducheon City in order to utlize unused land after the relocation of a US military camp, improve efficiency, create additional value and develop the local community. 

The project is led by Dongducheon Dream Power Co., Ltd., which is a SPC incorporated by Korea Western Power, Samgsung C&T, and Hyundai Development Company. KEPCO E&C and Cleint closely and actively cooperated with eath other to  complete the permit and license process in a short period of time. 

Approximately 31 months from 2012 to 2014 are needed for the project. When completed in December 2014, the plant is expected to greately contribute to the power supply to the Seoul metropolitan area and nothern Gyeonggi province. 

KEPCO E&C will spare no effort to to perform its duty of A/E in the project aiming at building the most advanced and eco-friendly combined cycle power plant with high efficiency.
