President & CEO Koo-woun Park gave a special lecture during the "2016 Electro-technical Regulations Workshop" held on April 6.

This workshop was held to celebrate the 51st Electricity Day and was attended by approximately 700 practitioners from the electricity industry.

In a lecture on the "Status of North Korean Power Systems and Industry," President Park compared the characteristics of power facilities between South and North and gave explanations on the status of North Korea’s major development industries, economy, and construction investments.

In particular, President Park said that the serious power shortages faced by North Korea’s energy and power sector are both the biggest task for the North Korean economy and an investment priority for South-North economic cooperation.

In addition, North Korea’s power shortages was identified to have been caused by aging power instruments that are 20 years old and which make up 90% of the total power facilities.

Based on this, it is expected that there will be high demand for large-scale constructions in order to alleviate the power shortages, and that this will become a new opportunity for the stagnating domestic power sector.

President Park believes that active investment from the construction industry related to establishing North Korean infrastructure could be the engine for the second great economic growth of South Korea. He concluded the lecture by emphasizing the importance of pan-government, pan-industrial interest and preparations  for smooth industrial progress and development of this project.

The lecture, an effective mix between the specialized knowledge of an engineer and the insight of a businessman, drew great responses from the attendees for providing a new platform for growth in the power and construction industry sector.
