On May 27, KEPCO E&C signed an MOU for developing and commercializing clean hydrogen technology using nuclear power at the Novotel Ambassador Hotel in Seoul. Signatories to the MOU include Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Doosan Enerbility, POSCO Holdings, Korea Institute of Energy Research, Hydrogen Convergence Alliance, Korean Hydrogen and New Energy Society, and Korean Nuclear Society, in addition to KEPCO E&C. This occasion is a follow-up to the government’s initiation of the Research on the Design and Licensing of Large Capacity Clean Hydrogen Production/ Storage Plant. According to the MOU, the signatory companies plan to actively cooperate in ▲ developing and commercializing clean hydrogen production technology with nuclear power; ▲developing a business model for clean hydrogen through nuclear power to enhance the export competitiveness of nuclear power plants; and ▲building a sustainable nuclear and hydrogen industry ecosystem. At the signing ceremony, President Kim Sung-arm remarked, “We hope to ramp up the development and commercialization of clean hydrogen technology through nuclear power plants with this MOU and government projects. We at KEPCO E&C are also fully committed to successfully pursuing research on hydrogen production through nuclear power based on the design technology of nuclear power plants accumulated up to now.” The signing ceremony was followed by the Nuclear Clean Hydrogen Business Forum held with the participation of more than 100 people from nuclear and hydrogen industries, academia, and research institutes, including National Assembly member Yang Jung-suk. At the Forum, there were active discussions on the role and vision of nuclear clean hydrogen for achieving carbon neutrality, domestic and overseas clean hydrogen production and technology development trends, clean hydrogen technology development plans, projects for economic efficiency and commercialization of clean hydrogen, and legal and institutional solutions. |
