KEPCO E&C signed ‘the MOU for a joint investment in the construction of Gumi Hightech Valley Energy Center using natural gas’ with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Gumi City, and KOWEPO in the Gumi City Hall on April 27.

The MOU is for the construction of a natural gas power plant and the energy center that supplies hydrogen fuel cells to the Gumi Hightech Valley Industrial Complex and to ensure the seamless investment project.

KOWEPO will be responsible for the construction and investment for the 500 MW natural gas power plant and the energy center with the hydrogen fuel cells (60-100 MW) at the Gumi Hightech Valley Industrial Complex. Gumi City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province will provide the administrative support for the construction of the energy center, and KEPCO E&C will be responsible for the feasibility study of the power and heat supply and the technical support for the project execution.

As a public institution headquartered in the Gyeongbuk region, KEPCO E&C plans to support KOWEPO’s construction plan and cooperate closely with the project partners for the seamless project execution through the collaboration with the municipal government.

Before the signing event, KOWEPO’s CEO Kim had a meeting with KEPCO E&C’s CEO Lee and top management who gave a presentation of KEPCO E&C’s general business status and the performance and outcomes of the combined cycle power plant construction projects like Osan Cogeneration Plant and CIPREL add-on projects. Kim expressed his hope that both companies can generate synergy in new technology areas like smart plant implementation projects.

Concerning the MOU for investment, he emphasized the importance of completing the feasibility study as soon as possible for the timely start of the construction of the energy center and the best effort to build the smart energy center incorporating efficient and environmentally friendly future technologies.

Kim requested “KEPCO E&C’s broad participation and active cooperation for project development, including the engineering service for the construction of the energy center for the Gumi Hightech Valley.”
