KEPCO E&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iljin Power Co. on 12 February to cooperate in projects related to the designing and manufacturing of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) pressurizer. Participants in the signing ceremony included Mr. Kim Shin-hwan, head of the NSSS Division, and Mr. Park Woo-seop, head of Iljin’s Development Business Division. Iljin Power, which specializes in routine maintenance of power plants and manufacturing of nuclear power and renewable energy equipment, has ample code-based manufacturing experience and quality assurance certification necessary to conduct the businesses of ITER. ITER is an international nuclear fusion energy megaproject, in which seven countries are participating – South Korea, China, Japan, the United States, Russia, India and European Union. KEPCO E&C is tasked with CIS, CESS and CMA areas. KEPCO E&C plans to take advantage of the MOU with Iljin Power to expedite commercialization of ITER nuclear fusion energy, securing of nuclear fusion reactor construction technology and obtaining of ITER-related contracts. |
