From Jan. 5th to Jan. 14th, KEPCO E&C hosted a 10-day ‘Power Engineering School Summer Camp’ as part of an education program aimed at training would-be engineers.

Power Engineering School(PES) have provided summer and winter training courses for university students majoring in science and engineering during vacation periods since 2011.

Marking the 8th anniversary this winter, the popularity of the PES has been increasing every year as the number of applicants has grown rapidly by word-of-mouth, helped by the positive experience of participants.

65 students recommended by 33 universities including Gyeongbuk National University participated in this year’s winter camp.

Over the years, 480 students have completed the PES camp, and 5 of them were hired by KEPCO E&C to begin their professional career as an engineer.

Students enjoyed a variety of programs during the camp: lectures delivered by experts on 12 nuclear and thermal power related subjects, guided tour to Hadong Thermal Power Plant and Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant, humanities lecture and visits to historical sites.

The lectures on power plant engineering, the key element of the PES curriculum, covered all the aspects of engineering - including electrical, instrument & control, mechanical, plant design, nuclear, civil and architecture - needed for power plant engineering.

The lectures were delivered by professors and instructors with over 20 years of field experience at the Human Resources Development Center at KEPCO E&C, and were held in both lecture rooms and power plants, thereby providing the students with a high standard of theoretical education as well as field experience.

"I am realizing the attractiveness of power plant engineering more and more with each day I participate in the PES. I want to preserve my current passion and efforts to grow into a wonderful engineer in the future," said Oh Byeong-ho, a student at the Department of Electronics Engineering at Kangwon National University.

KEPCO E&C will give scholarship to 10 students who received outstanding grade throughout the camp. In addition, KEPCO E&C plant to cultivate the program so that it will firmly become established as a cradle for future engineers in power technology.
