KEPCO E&C provided training on nuclear power plant design to engineers of  ÚJV Řež, the state-run nuclear research institute in the Czech Republic, from November 14 to 16.

The education, aimed at increasing understanding of the design of the Advanced Power Reactor 1000 (APR1000) - a strategic reactor for export to Europe - and promoting its excellence, included some 20 courses.

“I hope that such technical exchange will help broaden the relations between the two countries and pave the way for long-term solid cooperation,” said Jin Tae-eun, Executive Senior Vice President of KEPCO E&C.

This training is part of the technology exchange agreement signed by KHNP (Team Korea) and  ÚJV Řež. A total of 13 visitors, including engineers and directors in charge of business and mechanical divisions at  ÚJV Řež, toured Saeul Nuclear Power Plant, Doosan Heavy Industries, and KEPCO Nuclear Fuel Company from November 13 to 16 before participating in the company’s engineering training.

In line with the cooperation agreement, Team Korea personnel including KEPCO E&C’s engineers will also visit  ÚJV Řež to receive training on the main design requirements for Czech Republic’s nuclear power plant at the end of this month.

ÚJV Řež is expected to participate as a technology evaluator in the new nuclear power plant project of the Czech Republic, for which bidding will begin as early as next year. These kinds of technical exchanges between the two parties are expected to help strengthen their cooperative relationship and have a positive impact on the possible awarding of the new power plant project in the Czech Republic.

KEPCO E&C will actively seek to participate in the construction of Czech’s new power plant based on its extensive experience in nuclear power plant design as well as the safety and economic feasibility of Korean nuclear reactors.
