The built-in control rod drive unit presented by the mechanical system engineering department of the NSSS Division won the grand prize in the group category at the BIXPO 2018 International Invention Fair held on November 2, 2018.

The built-in control rod drive unit is a key element technology for the development of small modular reactors (SMR), which can prevent a control rod ejection accident in the first place and minimize the reactor head penetration pipe.

Only a few companies in the world have successfully developed this mechanism. This development enabled KEPCO E&C to secure another core technology for nuclear reactors and boost its global competitiveness.

A total of 164 inventions were selected and exhibited at the BIXPO 2018 International Invention Fair, and the awards were given in five categories.

KEPCO E&C won the grand prize in the KEPCO group category wherein power generation subsidiaries, KEPCO KPS, and KEPCO NF competed.
