Agreement for Technical Cooperation in Spent Fuel Management

KEPCO E&C signed the Agreement for Technical Cooperation in Spent Fuel Management at BEXCO, Busan on May 31 with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) to implement spent fuel management projects efficiently.

The signing event was attended by the following: Jo Jik-lae, Executive Senior Vice President of KEPCO E&C; Na Gi-yong, VP of the Nuclear BG of DHIC; and Song Gi-chan, Head of KAERI.

The three entities agreed to: △ cooperate on technologies and project for the transport, storage, and handling of spent fuel; △ interchange personnel and information; △ jointly use the facilities and equipment; △ build a mutual cooperation system with industries and research institutes; and △ develop spent fuel management technologies with the goal of improving international competitiveness with regard to spent fuel.

In his congratulatory remarks, Korea Radioactive Waste Society President Kim Chang-lak cited the need to improve the international competitiveness of spent fuel technology by securing key technologies through the close cooperation system on spent fuel and generating actual outputs of cooperation.
