On March 21, KEPCO E&C signed an agreement with KT for cooperation in the field of cutting-edge ICT-based energy fusion and convergence.

The signing event held at the KT headquarters building in Jongno-gu, Seoul was attended by executives from both companies including Lee Bae-soo, CEO of KEPCO E&C; Yun Gyeong-rim, the head of KT’s Future Convergence Business Implementation Division; and Kim Yeong-myeong, the head of KT’s Smart Energy Business Division.

KEPCO E&C and KT will jointly develop and execute energy fusion and convergence projects, develop an energy management system for power plants, and develop technologies for the construction of smart power plants.

KEPCO E&C plans to utilize its extensive experience and know-how in power plant engineering to develop new projects in collaboration with KT, including EPC, O&M and projects aimed at improving the energy efficiency related with cogeneration and new & renewable energy power generation.

Furthermore, it will cooperate with KT on the development of “Plant EMS,” an energy management system that integrates cutting-edge ICT for power plants.

Plant EMS is an operating system based on a platform that converges ICT, including power plant operation monitoring, early warning of problems, predictive diagnosis, and a distributed energy system.

KEPCO E&C plans to build smart power plants based on IoT, big data, and AI by interfacing with KT-MEG, KT’s integrated energy management platform.

“The signing of this agreement represents an opportunity for both companies to combine their core competencies and know-how for the purpose of technological innovation,” declared Lee Bae-soo. “We will cooperate with KT on a wide range of areas in a drive to expand the new energy business and secure new growth engines.”

“We will work with KEPCO E&C to expand value-added and maximize customer benefits through joint business development in the fields of cogeneration and new and renewable energy, based on our complementary core competencies,” Yun Gyeong-rim said.
