KEPCO E&C signed a contract with KHNP for an engineering service for currently operational nuclear power plants in 2018 on February 14.

The engineering service is a continuous contact that can be renewed annually. Although the contract amount was initially set at around 20 billion won (23 billion won for 2017), the amount for this year’s contract has more than doubled to 51.7 billion won.

The project is a typical case of proposal-type business development. KEPCO E&C was able to sign the contract based on its extensive know-how after more than a year of negotiations with the client.

KEPCO E&C will carry out such services as technical analysis, safety analysis, integrity assessment, enhancement of vulnerable equipment, approval support, and emergency technical support for plant shutdowns and coastdown to ensure the safety and reliability of operating power plants.

KEPCO E&C expects that the timely performance of technical evaluation, design change, and emergency technical support for the systems, structures and devices of twenty-five domestic nuclear power plants, including the APR1400 of Shin Kori Units 3 and 4, will secure safety, prevent failures and shutdowns, and increase utilization of the equipment.

Moreover, KEPCO E&C plans to raise public trust in nuclear power plants by strengthening safety and quality in a bid to alleviate concerns about the safety of nuclear power plant in the wake of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster and the earthquake in Gyeongju.

It will continue developing safety improvement projects and cultivating projects with operational power plants as its main business.
