KEPCO E&C was singled out as an ‘exemplary agency’ (Grade 2) in the ‘2017 Anti-Corruption Initiative Assessment’ conducted by the Anti-Bribery & Civil Rights Commission of Korea.

The Anti-Corruption Initiative Assessment is an annual assessment conducted by the commission to enhance the level of integrity and transparency by evaluating and supporting government and state-run agencies’ voluntary efforts to prevent corruption, and has been conducted since 2002. The 2017 evaluation assessed 256 organizations including central government ministries and agencies in 39 projects.

The outcome of the evaluation categorizes agencies into five grades, and those graded two or higher are classed as exemplary organizations.

A total of 65 organizations saw their grades rise from the 2016 evaluation, and 27 of them including KEPCO E&C achieved a significant upgrading by two grades or more.

KEPCO E&C received a good assessment in every category in the 2017 Anti-Corruption Initiative Assessment, and made significant strides by rising two grades from a ‘poor’ (Grade 4) organization in 2016 to ‘good’ (Grade 2) organization.

KEPCO E&C has stepped up its internal self-monitoring efforts to spread a culture of anti-bribery and prevent corruption within the organization. It has also voluntarily detected areas vulnerable to corruption in its areas of service, and improved the related systems, focusing on the preemptive prevention of opportunities for corruption.

In addition, KEPCO E&C had its leadership and staff who shared commitment to ethical management and its implementation, and made extra efforts such as establishing the international standard anti-bribery management system ISO 37001, conducting enterprise-wise activities to ensure integrity and ethics, operating a program to promote integrity and ethics with the local community, and spreading a culture of integrity, which collectively received high marks in the assessment.

As a state-run agency based in Gyeongbuk Gimcheon Innovation City, KEPCO E&C is also actively implementing anti-bribery, pro-integrity and ethics activities in partnership with the local community.

It is increasing its ability to implement integrity and ethics activities through exchange and cooperation with public organizations and private-sector companies, and the benchmarking of exemplary cases.

Executive Auditor Lee Dong-Keun said, “We will further strengthen our anti-bribery, pro-integrity and ethics activities, and prepare diverse measures to collaborate with people in the community and private sector companies in 2018 as well.”

Notably, “As a state-run public company, we will continue to take the lead in the government’s effort to ‘establish a society of integrity together with the people,” he said.
