On August 29 KEPCO E&C signed an MOU for business cooperation on energy projects with Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk Province. The signing event, held at Gimcheon City Hall, was attended by representatives from both parties including KEPCO E&C President Park Koo-woun and Gimcheon City Mayor Park Bo-saeng.

The signing of the MOU has provided an opportunity for KEPCO E&C to cooperate with Gimcheon City for the development of new and renewable energy sources, such as solar power, wind power, bio, and fuel cells. KEPCO E&C will also cooperate with Gimcheon City on the implementation of overall tasks, such as the sharing of project development information, the establishment of a basic plan and a feasibility review, and approval licensing related to new and renewable energy projects.

With the signing of the MOU, KEPCO E&C plans to contribute to strengthening the region’s competitiveness and creating local jobs by implementing smart innovative city and photovoltaic power generation complex projects. It expects that close cooperation with Gimcheon City, which is the new and renewable energy development authority in the region, will enhance the efficiency of project execution and encourage local residents’ acceptance.

“The role of new and renewable energy has become more important as the national energy policy is moving away from nuclear power and coal thermal power. KEPCO E&C will create new cooperative models that highlight KEPCO E&C’s technological capability,” Park Koo-woun, President of KEPCO E&C, said.

“Gimcheon City will provide all the available administrative support for KEPCO E&C to grow into a global energy technology company. I also expect the company to play a key role in Gimcheon’s growth into a leading city,” announced Park Bo-saeng, Mayor of Gimcheon.

On August 1, KEPCO E&C restructured its organization with a view to entering the new and renewable energy sector in full swing. The company plans to create new growth engines by expanding its engineering competency in nuclear and thermal power plants to new and renewable energy; and is committed to leading the new market proactively by responding to the government's new and renewable energy policy.
