KEPCO E&C recently celebrated the shipment of nuclear reactor components for the unit 2 reactor of the Darlington nuclear power plant, the first to be exported to Canada, on July 7.

Three types of components were shipped out including bearing sleeves, journal bearing , and shielding sleeves, core components for the assembly of the end fitting, which will help extend the lifespan of the unit 2 reactor of the Darlington nuclear power plant.

This success is a result of the collaboration between KEPCO E&C’s design technology and supplier's manufacturing technology. After signing the contract in September 2015, it was necessary to complete various complicated procedures - such as selecting the supplier for raw materials, manufacturing, testing, and obtaining approval and the necessary documentation - before being allowed to make the shipment.

If the two types of retaining rings being made in the U.S. are shipped after testing at the beginning of August, the delivery of parts for the unit 2 reactor of the Darlington nuclear power plant will be completed, while the production of components for units 1, 3, and 4 of Darlington will begin.

The production of the components for the reactor is meaningful in that it is the first export of nuclear components to be carried out in cooperation with a medium-size firm, SunKwang Techwin(SKT), Inc.

KEPCO E&C is planning to use this experience as a stepping stone toward actively extending our heavy-water reactor components production business including Canada.
