- Indonesia to act as steppingstone for tapping into Southeast Asia’s power market -

KEPCO E&C held the opening ceremony of its newly established branch in Jakarta, Indonesia on February 21. The ceremony was attended by KEPCO E&C CEO Park Koo-woun and key personnel from the South Korean Embassy in Indonesia, International Contractors Association of Korea and Korea Electric Power Corp., among other agencies and firms.

KEPCO E&C is looking to use the Indonesian branch to tap into the Southeast Asian market and ultimately win contracts for both coal-fired power plants and nuclear plants in regions such as Vietnam and Malaysia where the electric power industry is showing rapid growth.

“The [Indonesian] branch will mark the starting point of advancement into Indonesia’s rapidly growing electric power industry,” said Park. “KEPCO E&C shall discover its new growth engine in the Southeast Asian power market.”

Meanwhile, Song Yo-han, the commercial attaché of South Korea in Indonesia, delivered words of encouragement by saying, “I look forward to the success of KEPCO E&C and all other [South Korean] companies entering the Indonesian power market, which is expected to establish 35-gigawatt worth of power plant facilities over the next five years.”

KEPCO E&C will also use the new branch to work closely with other South Korean firms in Indonesia as well as local businesses and reaffirm its entry into Southeast Asia’s market for power plants.
