- Resolves to improve nuclear facilities’ design quality with cooperative companies


 
KEPCO E&C held the “Quality Day” event on October 26 for the improvement of the engineering services by inviting other cooperative companies.

This event was held for the sharing of needed recognition between the cooperative companies regarding the engineering service quality and strengthening of the relationship between the cooperative companies. Thus, 28 representatives of the cooperative companies participated in the event.

The event was carried out in the following order: sharing of awareness of nuclear quality and safety culture; current status of the evaluation system of the cooperative companies and quality audits of the subcontractors; dissemination of an excellent case of quality assurance activities by a cooperative company; debate on the quality issues between the cooperative companies and Q&A time.

Professor Kim of Howon University was invited to give a lecture on “Quality and Safety Culture.”

Professor Cheon-yong Kim introduced a new paradigm regarding the safety of the quality system while presenting other safety/product quality cases in other industrial areas. He then explained the main mission of the quality system.

In addition, he broke down the mission of the quality system into five categories: assurance of the product’s safe operation; assurance of the product’s durability; assurance of following the mandatory control conditions; following the company’s individual standards, and; improvement of the safety-related process. The professor also introduced the effect of “Situation Awareness” and “Assertiveness” on quality.

 “We must lay the foundation for mutual growth through the creation of a continuous communication network between the cooperative companies. KEPCO E&C and its cooperative companies should actively improve the products’ quality,” Jik-rae Cho, chief of the Nuclear Division said. 

With the goal of creating an nuclear power plant trusted by the people, the company is planning to expand the perspectives regarding the quality of nuclear businesses and enhance the quality of structural designs by engaging in continuous communication with the cooperative companies.
