The Korea Workshop on Heavy Water Reactor 2016 was held last July 14 – 15.

Jointly arranged by Korea Nuclear Society (KNS) and Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), the workshop sought to improve understanding of the main issues on the heavy water reactor and to spread the results of research and operation in Korea.

50 people related to regulatory or research organizations and industry participated in the workshop, including Mr. Kwangwon Lee, Senior Vice President of KEPCO E&C.

In the workshop, along with the general lecture for improving the understanding of the main issues on the heavy water reactor, there were presentations about specific topics including the current state of operating heavy water nuclear power plants in Korea, improvement of regional overpower protection (ROP) system and redundancy, trend of interpretation of the major accident in Canada, and other topics to spread the results of research and operation in Korea.

This workshop provided a valuable opportunity to exchange information about the main issues on heavy water reactor. KEPCO E&C will actively pursue cooperative activities with the relevant organizations in order to improve the operability and safety of nuclear power plants.
