President & CEO Koo-woun Park gave a special lecture on the "Direction of development for KEPCO E&C’s future" on July 12 at the KEPCO E&C NSSS Division.

This special lecture was prepared to promote the expertise of the employees by sharing related information that can be useful for the change of energy environment since the Post 2020 climate regime dawned.

About 140 employees of NSSS Division attended the lecture, which consisted of the change of energy environment on a global scale, competitiveness of nuclear energy, technical status of Korean nuclear power plant, and sustainable nuclear power plant design.

President Park examined the greenhouse gas reduction target of South Korea under the Post 2020 climate regime and argued that a reasonable energy mix focusing on high efficiency and low carbon needs to be established. In this respect, nuclear energy is eco-friendly and is a realistic alternative to global warming with both sustainability and economic feasibility, he said.

In particular, concerning the nuclear energy policy of Korea, he emphasized the responsible control system, safe operation first, and "Safety First with Public Trust" based on safe energy.

In addition, he explained the importance of developing 4th-generation reactors including Small Modular Reactor (SMR) through safety enforcement design, Generation IV Reactor (Gen-IV), and decommissioning technology. He also expects these areas to breathe new life to the sluggish domestic power industry.

President Park finally emphasized the importance of improving technical skills by constantly cultivating experts in the fields of engineering and construction of nuclear power plants.
