SAREX(R) Sold

On July 14, 2006, KOPEC sold SAREX®, a PSA (Probabilistic Safety Assessment) software developed by the Integrated Safety Assessment Research Group of the Power Engineering Research Institute, to KEPRI (Korea Electric Power Research Institute).

 SAREX is a computer software that can conduct reliability analyses or probabilistic safety assessments of industrial facilities including nuclear power plants. It’s currently used in performing PSAs of all nuclear power plants in as well as in developing input models and software programs of risk monitoring systems, which can assess the increase in risk that may be resulted from maintenance activities in nuclear power plants. SAREX is also used in all nuclear power plants as well as by Korea Hydro Nuclear Power and NETEC (Nuclear Environment Technology Institute), and users of SAREX are regularly trained every year.

 Ever since SAREX was developed as part of KOPEC’s technology development project, it became a registered trademark in the , and . KOPEC has also received a Korean Nuclear Safety Mark from the Ministry of Science and Technology for the quality of SAREX in July 2005. The nuclear safety mark is given to technologies and products that have contributed to the safety of nuclear power plants.

 According to the SAREX sales contract, Korea Electric Power Research Institute will be provided a site license to use SAREX 1.2 with free maintenance and repair services for the next one year.

 KOPEC plans to continue to update the program and offer training as the need for SAREX is expected to increase in the near future depending on the implementation and application of the RIR (Risk-Informed Regulation).
