KOPEC won an engineering contract made by Korea Midland Power on April 4 to provide engineering services for the construction of Incheon Combined Cycle Power Plant Unit 2.

KOPEC won the contract after an intense competition with Hyundai Engineering and Daewoo Engineering in a competitive bid. In the 42-month project, KOPEC is to provide basic designs, detailed designs, purchasing support, quality assurance, quality management support, construction supervision and testing services necessary for the construction of the power plant.

The LNG-fired Incheon Combined Cycle Power Plant Unit 2 with a capacity of 500MW is scheduled to be completed in June 2009. The new power plant will be built inside of the Incheon Thermal Power Plant Complex alongside the Incheon Combined Cycle Power Plant Unit 1 KOPEC has already engineered. Once completed, the power plant units 2 will be supplying electric power to the metropolitan area.

By winning the contract, KOPEC demonstrated its competitiveness in designing combined cycle power plants. KOPEC will use this opportunity to further upgrade its thermal power plant engineering technology and make inroad into foreign markets.
